THE LAST BROADCAST
An original dystopian sci-fi / psychological horror written by Douglas Gibbens.
ERIS (30), a disgraced psychotherapist, must navigate her agoraphobia in her cramped, one-bedroom apartment during the aftermath of a nuclear holocaust. As she turns to the paranoia spewed by a radical podcast for answers, she becomes distrustful and fearful of even her closest neighbour.
THE LAST BROADCAST is a bleak, sci-fi, psychological thriller about the addled mind of a young woman, Eris, trying to survive her phobia of people and the outside world akin to “The Machinist” and “It Comes At Night”. She must overcome her fears lest they take hold and manifest into something far more dangerous than an open window.

DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT
This is a micro-budget feature. The story that unfolds is a cautionary tale about the deepest rabbit holes people can fall into when looking for some form of solace from a world wrought with charlatans and fear mongers. Three women: Eris, her last patient, and her neighbor, are all affected in one way or another by the drivel spewed by a well-known voice in the podcast world, and while one life has already been taken, two more are on the verge of being lost.
Our feature takes place in exactly one location: Eris’ apartment. Modern, yet distraught, the apartment and Eris‘ wardrobe will reflect the slow deterioration of her mental state as logic begins to slip away in favor of fear and paranoia. It will be shot in tight, wide angles, forcing the audience to be uncomfortably close with our subject, yet with far too much awareness of her surroundings. Sound design will play a large part in how Eris experiences the outside world - should her hand rest on the black-out curtain in front of her window for a brief moment of desire to look outside, all she will be able to hear are the screams and cries that pierce through the fire and brimstone below.
The reality of our world is constantly called into question, and the film deals with the themes of fear, group-think, and personal responsibility. THE LAST BROADCAST tells a tragic story that leans on the psychological aspects of horror to help fuel the suspense. Is Eris as much of a lost cause as her surroundings would suggest?
