Departure
In a future where earth is being abandoned for Mars, a woman finds herself tied to the planet by the ideals of her husband.
In the year 2085, earth has become all but uninhabitable, and an irresolute housewife is faced with news that her closest friends have decided to emigrate to Mars. When they ask her to join them, she begins to challenge her husband's idealism about the decaying Earth and must ultimately decide what she is willing to leave behind.
Winner of multiple best director awards and nominated for both best actress and best actor in a short at the 2021 Garden State Film Festival, this dystopian look into an all-too-likely future employed several creative and original tactics to elicit the feeling of a scientifically advanced society. Clever production design allowed for diegetic lighting with "warm mood paneling" to offset a future that lacks vitamin D, and smart lighting created an ever-changing colour and aesthetic which set the stage for an off-world experience that takes place right here at home.
